Our Passion
Our goal is to one day make 3D printing as common in offices, factories, schools and homes as laser printers are today.
Just as desktop publishing exploded as prices dropped and laser printers became ubiquitous, so too will new uses for
3D printing emerge as devices become inexpensive and widely available.
Desktop Factory was started by Idealab in 2004 to realize this goal.
Collectively, our team has over 100 years of experience in 3D printing,
laser printing and CAD/CAM. We are combining these talents to bring 3D printing capability to designers, engineers,
students and eventually hobbyists and other home users.

Our Initial Customers
Inexpensive 3D printing technology will greatly expand the ability of designers and engineers to see physical models of
their concepts before committing to more expensive, hand-made prototypes. Until now, only those working within major
corporations or other big-budget environments have had access to this important but costly tool. With the Desktop Factory
3D printer, small firms and independent professionals will be able to provide these same benefits to their
clients and open up new markets for their talents.
The use of this technology in education is particularly important, providing engineering students and faculty with
opportunities to develop skills relevant to state-of-the-art design, tooling and manufacturing processes used in industry today.
The Desktop Factory 3D printer will encourage the creative and imaginative skills of students by giving shape to their ideas.

Looking to the Future
Within three years, Desktop Factory's 3D printers will be affordable even for home use. Imagine your child being able to
select a toy from a catalog or even design his or her own and create it right at home. Think about the benefits of
making your own parts for sprinkler systems or small appliances at your desk. The long-range possibilities are endless.
Desktop Factory's 3D printers are set to unleash a new wave of talent and productivity in a three-dimensional world.
