Senior Mechanical Engineer

Reports to: Senior VP Operations

Position Purpose:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for validation and productization of Desktop Factory 3D printers. The successful candidate will participate in the development of the product, including delivering all elements of mechanical product development, conceptual design alternatives, systems architecture, detailed designs of components and subsystems, test plans, prototypes, and production quality documentation. This individual will be a high energy team player who will interface effectively with peers in a multi-disciplinary work group, as well as vendors, customers, and management.
Requirements/Qualities:
Required:
- Consistent history of fast paced development with an aggressive results-oriented attitude, a strong sense of ownership, and emphasis on multi-tasking
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- 10+ years Mechanical Engineering experience in world class electro-mechanical product development, with emphasis on rapid time to market, low cost, and high product performance
- Experience in designing, fabricating, integrating, testing, and refining moving precision mechanisms and/or motion systems
- Strong solid modeling CAD skills (preferably SolidWorks)
- Experience generating ANSI and ISO compliant mechanical drawings
- Experience generating and maintaining BOMs throughout all product development phases
- Breadth of experience with fabrication technologies such as molding, casting, stamping, cold forming, sintering, vacuum forming, and machining
- Breadth of experience with engineering materials such as sheet metal, metal castings, elastomers, plastics, and metal plating and finishes
- Practical and theoretical understanding of vibrations and dynamics
- Past efforts related to thermodynamic profiling and design constraints related to process heat
- Demonstrated ability to generate processes specific to product functionality
- Perl or Python scripting skills
- BSME/BSAE or equivalent required
Desired:
- Experience designing highly modular subsystems for complex electromechanical products
- Experience with cost effective servo and stepper motion technologies
- Experience with computer controlled moving mechanisms such as printers, copiers, fax machines, or plotters
- Degreed or job related background related to closed loop systems
- Experience in Design of Experiments (DOE) for product performance optimization and problem solving
- Understanding of statistical analysis techniques (histograms, process capability, control charts, etc.)
- Working knowledge of product requirements for agency compliance, including UL, CE, FCC, CSA, etc.
- Hands-on machining skills
- High level of computer literacy, including advanced spreadsheet abilities
- Small company experience
