AFTER THE SALE – AN UPDATE ON DESKTOP FACTORY

It has been an exciting time for the former Desktop Factory crew as they began the process of becoming part of 3D Systems Corporation. After a great deal of planning a group comprised of some of the recent Desktop Factory alum teamed with people from 3D Systems, hired trucks and went to Pasadena, California to move the finished and raw goods inventory to Valencia, California, one of 3D Systems’ research and manufacturing facilities. The move included test printers, benches and lab equipment and actually took two full days given the size of the Desktop Factory facility and the desire to make this move as seamless as possible.

About the time that the trucks were rolling into Valencia we were beginning to welcome the Desktop Factory employees to 3D Systems and were taking them through an orientation process. This is a fairly essential step at 3D Systems as our goal is to get everybody on board as soon as practical and familiarize them with the company, our products and processes. We know that in order to harvest the maximum value from an acquisition the people need to come first.

Now that all of the furniture, equipment and people are situated we will begin a technical assessment of the Desktop Factory 3D Printers. This work may take a few months but we are looking forward to conducting this evaluation and determining our next steps with regards to the printers and their state of technical readiness. We will keep you posted every step of the way because we understand your interest in and commitment to affordable, easy-to-use 3D Printing. So please stay tuned.

UNPLANNED BUT SERENDIPITOUS

3D SystemsDuring the course of the acquisition I got to know Abe Reichental, the CEO and president of 3D Systems, fairly well. Once we had successfully closed the sale he invited me to join 3D Systems as the head of global marketing. While this was not an anticipated outcome I have accepted this exciting opportunity for three main reasons. I have a strong belief that this industry can and will grow dramatically with the availability of affordable, easy to use systems and enablers. Second, this position provides the chance to remain close to my former Desktop Factory team. And last, and perhaps most importantly, the potential to work with all of you to bring 3D Printing to the desktop is just too compelling to miss. Thanks for your unwavering support over the past 3 years, I look forward to what I know will be a great adventure.
